1. Adrian Amos, Safety

Adrian Amos took his time to develop in the NFL, but he finally put it all together this last season. While his safety-mate Eddie Jackson led the safety position with an elite grade via Pro Football Focus (subscription required) thanks to his excellent ball skills, Amos wasn’t far behind as he finished eighth overall. Amos fills that box safety role against the run that every team searches for, but he’s also able to play the pass against opposing tight ends or in deep coverage help.

New defensive coordinator Chuck Pagano is going to want to implement a new system, and maintaining the defenses continuity will help that. Like I mentioned above, running it back works when your team is young and improving like the Bears. Amos is going to get better with age, and he pairs so well with Jackson that the team needs to keep this duo together while they can.

Callahan and Lynch are both important pieces to this defense, but they come in behind Amos in terms of the importance of resigning. Amos may cost the team a bit more money to resign, but it’s worth it when your defense has the ability to play at the elite level this team does. When free agency starts, or even before then, the Bears should try and get Amos locked up for the future.
