Oakland Raiders: 5 Moves to improve in 2019 offseason
By Cory Kinnan
Trade for Jadeveon Clowney
While Jadeveon Clowney is technically a free agent, do not expect the Houston Texans to let him hit the open market. Even if they do not have any intentions of signing the former first overall pick to a long-term deal, the Texans would be able to land a high draft pick if they were to tag-and-trade Clowney.
Jon Gruden should get on the phone with Houston’s front office, like, yesterday about a negotiation to acquire Clowney’s service. With five first rounders and three second rounders over the next two season, the Raiders have plenty of ammunition to trade up for Bosa and acquire Clowney if they would like to. For a team with less than 15 sacks in 2018, adding two talented pass rushers to a flailing team with over $70 million in cap space should not be an issue.
While Clowney has not lived up to the hype that he carried into the 2014 draft, he is still a very productive pass rusher that Houston can probably not afford long-term and could be looking to gain assets back for, just as the Miami Dolphins did with Jarvis Landry just one year ago by tagging and trading him to the Cleveland Browns for draft assets.
The Texans are in desperate need of offensive lineman, while the Raiders have two former Pro Bowlers on the trade block in Osemele and Penn. Package one with a pick or two and make Houston a fair offer for Clowney. Pick up the phone, Chucky, and make it happen.
