Indianapolis Colts: 3 Possible targets with 26th pick in 2019 NFL Draft
2. Deandre Baker, CB, Georgia
Quincy Wilson, Kenny Moore Jr. and Pierre Desir were serviceable at the cornerback position last season, but the team needs a significant upgrade at that spot. Enter Deandre Baker out of Georgia. The former Bulldog was an excellent athlete in college. He was an All-American sprinter in high school, and he was good enough to start in the SEC as a true freshman back in 2015. If it weren’t for an unfortunate injury, he likely would have been drafted last year.
Baker showed good ball skills, as he had at least two interceptions every year outside of his freshman campaign. His speed allows him to run with any outside receivers that other players can struggle with. He’ll likely run in the 4.4-second range in the 40-yard dash. With Malik Hooker playing over the top and Baker on the outside, the team would have two high athleticism defensive backs with above-average ball skills.
There are a few cornerbacks that are considered to go in the first round, such as LSU’s Greedy Williams and Washington’s Byron Murphy. If one of those players is still on the board when the Colts pick, they could definitely take a look at them. However, with the NFL moving more towards favoring the passing game, it wouldn’t be surprising for them to both be off the board. Baker isn’t a bad consolation prize at all though.
