1. D.K. Metcalf, WR, Ole Miss

The Colts have been searching for years for a big consistent wide receiver to pair with Pro Bowler T.Y. Hilton. While options like Andre Johnson, Donte Moncrief and Ryan Grant have come up short, the team can find that receiver in the form of D.K. Metcalf.

The three-year receiver out of Ole Miss is a handful at 6-4 and 225 pounds, but, based on recent photos, he looks like he could weigh much more than that.

Metcalf has the athleticism and raw talent that teams look for, but he needs to work on his route-running ability at the next level. His teammate A.J. Brown is the more polished product, but he doesn’t have the same ceiling that Metcalf does. Metcalf’s size make him tough to bring down, and he’s great in the red zone and between the 20s at extending drives.

The combine will be huge for Metcalf, particularly in the agility drills. If he can run in the low 4.5-second range on the 40, he will be a near lock for the first round. However, if he struggles, he’s going to likely fall to be a day two pick. Luck showed last year that he still has the talent to make any throw that he needs to.

While tight end Eric Ebron was the team’s major red zone threat last season, Metcalf could pair with him to make them undefendable down in that end.
