76. Lawrence Pillars

Lawrence Pillars played in the NFL as a defensive lineman from 1976-85 and during his 10-year career, he played for the San Francisco 49ers and Atlanta Falcons after four and a half seasons in New York with the Jets. Pillars was a four-year starter for the Jets before being shipped off to the Bay Area three games into the 1980 season. After another four and a half seasons in San Francisco, he played one season with the Falcons before retiring in 1985.

77. James Carpenter

Current Jets guard James Carpenter enters the list as the most notable player to wear No. 77 for the gang green. Carpenter has been the Jets’ starting left guard for four years since coming to New York from Seattle in 2015. The soon-to-be 30-year old is currently an unrestricted free agent and is coming off of an injury that only allowed him to play 10 games in 2018.

78. Garry Puetz

Playing in the NFL from 1973-82, Garry Puetz played the first five and a half seasons in New York for the Jets. Puetz also had tenures in Tampa Bay, New England, Philadelphia and Washington throughout his ten-year career in the NFL. He started a total of 59 games as a member of the New York Jets.

79. Marvin Powell

Long-time New York offensive tackle Marvin Powell rounds on the 70s as the most notable Jet to ever wear the number 79. Powell played nine of his 11 years in the league with the Jets before finishing his career with two seasons in Tampa Bay before retiring in 1987. From his years in New York, Powell was named to five straight Pro Bowls from 1979-83 and was a three time all-pro while wearing the gang green.

80. Wayne Chrebet

Wayne Chrebet played 11 years in the NFL as a wide receiver and played his whole career in New York for the Jets and became a fan favorite; He played from 1995-2005. Throughout his career, he had only one 1,000-yard receiving season, but remained a solid and reliable target for former Jets, quarterbacks such as Chad Pennington and Vinnie Testaverde. He finished his career with over 7,300 yards receiving on 580 catches and 41 touchdowns.
