2019 NFL Mock Draft: Jets have edge, Browns get defensive in two-round projection
By Randy Gurzi
20. Pittsburgh Steelers: Rashan Gary, DT, Michigan
The Pittsburgh Steelers already have a strong defensive line and landing someone like Rashan Gary may seem like a luxury pick because of that. However, the move could make sense as they seek to continue to remain strong on the front lines.
As for Gary himself, there’s a lot to like but he also could use a couple of seasons to develop his raw talent, which is what Joe Marino from The Draft Network says.
"“Rashan Gary offers an intriguing tool box and his ceiling is high should he develop. His power, short area quickness and heavy hands lay a solid foundation to work with. That said, his hand technique, processing skills and inconsistent motor must improve. His lack of flexibility limits his upside as an every down EDGE so moving him up and down the defensive front is wise to maximize his ability to make an impact. By year three, Gary has the upside to be a productive starter in a multi-front defense. His pass rushing upside is considerably high from interior.” — Marino, The Draft Network"
Pittsburgh continues to remain strong on defense due to all the attention they give that side of the ball in the first round and they continue that trend with this pick. Should Gary reach his potential, he could end up being one of their bigger stars in the near future.
