28. Los Angeles Chargers: Mack Wilson, LB, Alabama

A great 2018 season from the Los Angeles Chargers ended on a sour note as they were thoroughly embarrassed by the eventual champion New England Patriots in the Divisional Round of the playoffs. There were several problems in that game, but the real truth about that game was they were just overmatched against a team that has their number.

They’re still well-rounded as a team with Philip Rivers leading them on offense. He’s still looking like a player capable of leading a run to the Super Bowl, and has a strong supporting cast in Melvin Gordon, Mike Williams, and Keenan Allen.

Defensively they’re a dangerous team up front with Joey Bosa — the older brother of Nick Bosa who went really early in this mock — and Melvin Ingram. 2018 first-round pick Derwin James also joined the cast last season and is the best defensive back since Eric Weddle.

Now they add more help as they take Mack Wilson out of Alabama. One of the top inside linebackers in the draft, Wilson debated on turning pro nearly to the deadline. There are concerns as he was flat-footed and picked on in their loss to Clemson, but still offers more than enough to go early here.
