5 Wide receivers for New York Jets to target in 2019 NFL free agency
By Cory Kinnan
With free agency set to begin in about one month and the New York Jets in the market for both a deep threat and a slot receiver, who could be potential targets?
After the 2018 season, the New York Jets were able to lockdown their big bodied and sure handed receiver Quincy Enunwa to a four-year, $36 million extension, yet the team is still in need for some more weapons for franchise quarterback Sam Darnold. With over $105 million in cap space to play around with in 2019 NFL free agency, the Jets could potentially outbid any team for any potential target that they want.
While Robby Anderson and Jermaine Kearse are set to hit the open market, there is uncertainty whether either will be re-signed. Anderson is certainly a more attractive receiver to re-sign and he would certainly be welcomed back as the deep threat for the gang green. The good new is that if the Jets are unable to bring Anderson back to New York, there are plenty of good options set to hit the market.
With money to blow, the Jets are more than likely going to have to overpay for potential wide receivers, but that is not an issue the gang green has to address just yet with Darnold on his rookie contract.
The Jets have solid receivers in Enunwa and emerging tight end Chris Herndon, but with a total reconstruction of the running back room and injury concerns with Enunwa, New York must go out and pursue other options on the open market. Between outside deep threats and slot receivers, here are five potential targets to keep a close eye one as free agency is set to open.
