7 Possible Denver Broncos targets in the 2019 NFL Draft
Jonah Williams, OT, Alabama
It goes without saying, but the Denver Broncos need a major upgrade at the offensive tackle position. Joe Flacco isn’t an athletic quarterback, so taking a big man to protect him off the edges is important. Garett Bolles showed major improvement toward the latter part of the 2018 season, but there’s still a hole at right tackle. Jonah Williams has elite traits and can be a fantastic plug and play at the position.
A number of scouting reports that cite Jonah Williams’ arm length as a negative. However, Williams feet and timing mask any deficiencies that he may have in regards to his length. Williams has the innate ability to play with patience and great balance, rarely ever over-extending. He also has fantastic movement skills and solid athleticism. Anchoring and absorbing contact isn’t an issue in pass sets either.
Whether it’s fast defenders or power rushers, Williams handles them well. As a run blocker, he displays good power and drive. With the Broncos commitment to the running game, Williams makes sense as the man on the right side.
The idea of taking another tackle in the first round might turn some people off after taking Bolles in the first in 2017. Nevertheless, protecting Flacco is priority No. 1 for Denver heading into the 2019 season. Moreover, Williams brings versatility and tenacity with him. The Broncos will have to take Williams No. 10 overall and plug him at right tackle if they do.
