Chicago Bears: Pre-Combine 7-Round 2019 mock draft
The Chicago Bears rewarded nose tackle Eddie Goldman’s good play with a contract extension. Barring injuries, he’ll be in the starting lineup for the next four seasons. At the moment, though, the concern is for his backup.
Goldman needs a dependable backup so he doesn’t have to play so much that he runs out of gas late in games or late in the season. Edwin Alexander is someone who can be that player.
Alexander is a big stopgap in the middle. He measures in at 6-3, 331 pounds. He can move and stop the run. In 2018, his best game was against the best team in the country, the Alabama Crimson Tide. He finished the game with seven tackles, including a sack.
Alexander had another year of eligibility but decided to forego his senior season. Many feel that was a mistake. This is a tremendous draft deep at defensive line. Another season under his belt and he could have jumped to the early rounds, perhaps even in the first round.
He was dealing with some injuries, however, and was finally feeling healthy and wanted to jump to the NFL and develop rather than to risk injury. He’s leaving quite a bit of money on the table but feels he’s ready to take the next step. The Bears could get have a steal with this pick.
