New York Jets: Pre-Combine 7-round 2019 mock draft
By Cory Kinnan
Round 5, Pick 2: Miles Sanders, RB, Penn State
As mentioned earlier, the Jets are set to cut ties with Isaiah Crowell just one year into his three-year deal. In addition, Bilal Powell is set to become an unrestricted free agent, if he is ever able to play again after suffering a serious neck injury in 2018. This leaves the Jets with only Elijah McGuire, who has not averaged more than three yard per carry in his career.
Running back is another position to keep an eye on in free agency as it would not be a shock to see them pursue a big name such as Le’Veon Bell or Mark Ingram.
Expect the team to add depth to the running back room in the draft as well, here adding Saquon Barkley’s replacement at Penn State, Miles Sanders. The 5-11, 215-pound junior running back is entering the draft after just one year as the starting running back for the Nittany Lions.
In his lone season as the featured back in Happy Valley, Sanders averaged nearly six yards per carry, rushed for nearly 1,300 yards, and found the end zone nine times. If Sanders were to land in the Big Apple, he would instantly be the best back on the team, and even if the team were to sign a big named player, Sanders would make an excellent change-of-pace and breather back. He lands with the Jets at the top of the fifth round here.
