New York Jets: Pre-Combine 7-round 2019 mock draft
By Cory Kinnan
Round 7, Pick 3: Kingsley Keke, DL, Texas A&M
After missing out on a sixth round selection, the Jets are back in position to select at the top of the seventh round. After the axing of Mike Pennel last week, the Jets replace their nose tackle another 3-tech/pass rusher in Texas A&M’s Kingsley Keke.
Measuring in at 6-4 and 305 pounds, Keke was a late bloomer at A&M, but played well enough in his senior season to earn an invite to the Senior Bowl in Mobile earlier in February.
Tallying only five sacks prior to his senior campaign in 2018, he put up 7.5 this past season and added 11 tackles for loss from his defensive line position. Needing to give current defensive linemen a breather, including Leonard Williams, adding Keke’s depth is a must for the Jets for the 2019 season. This is another position that New York will hit hard in free agency as well.
Heading to Indianapolis, Keke has a lot to prove, including his ability to show speed and agility behind his large frame. Translating into a 3-4 defensive end in Gregg Williams’ hybrid defense, Keke could become a situational player and a depth piece that could contribute as a rookie. With a seventh-round pick, Keke is great value for the Jets to add to their front four.
