The San Antonio Commanders and San Diego Fleet square as both 1-1 teams in the AAF look to gain some ground on the top of the standings.
Things were quite ugly when the San Antonio Commanders and San Diego Fleet met in the first week of the 2019 AAF season. While both teams showed some good flashes, especially on defense, their matchup was one marred by turnovers and a distinct lack of scoring. Now these two teams, each sitting with a 1-1 record after two games, will match up once more, this time going to war in San Diego.
In their second game of the season, quarterback Logan Woodside and the Commanders showed much more on offense as they put up 29 points, as opposed to their 15 they posted in Week 1. However, their defense looked far worse as they were run all over by the Orlando Apollos, giving San Antonio their first loss of the young inaugural season in the AAF.
As for the Fleet, they looked much better in their second game overall. Not only did they quadruple their scoring from their season-opening loss as they took on the Atlanta Legends, but San Diego also continued to show strong defensive play as they conceded just 12 points. They look like a sleeper right now and a revenge win over San Antonio would be a good way to establish that they’re on the rise.
