30 NFL quarterbacks who got better after leaving their first team
By Dan Parzych
27. Jeff George
After playing on five different teams throughout his NFL career, football fans tend to forget that Jeff George was originally the No. 1 pick in the 1990 NFL Draft by the Indianapolis Colts.
In fact, the Colts actually decided to trade up for the quarterback, who bounced around a bit in college with the hope that George would become their next franchise quarterback.
Instead, Indianapolis would give George plenty of opportunities to prove himself worth over the next four years before deciding to trade him to the Atlanta Falcons before the start of the 1994 season.
While there were times where George put up some solid numbers as a member of the Falcons, it was the quarterback’s decision to sign with the Oakland Raiders after the 1996 season that seemed to work best for the former top selection.
During his first season with the Raiders, George would actually end up leading the league in passing yards (3,917) in 1997, finishing with a career high of 29 touchdown passes.
If only Oakland didn’t finish with only four wins that season, since the defense was basically a joke, maybe this impressive year by George would be more appreciated?
