Free agent center Mitch Morse is a perfect fit for the New York Jets as they look to upgrade the offensive line protecting Sam Darnold.

As the New York Jets move forward, their top priority should be finding pieces who help get the most out of franchise quarterback Sam Darnold. Hiring respected offensive mind Adam Gase to be their head coach is a fantastic step in the right direction. Gase does a fantastic job of getting the most out of his players and is the perfect coach to help take Darnold to the next level.

However, if the Jets are going to get the most out of their franchise quarterback, they must start adding impact offensive talent around him. With over $102 million in cap space, the Jets have the second most money to spend this off season, according to Over the Cap. They must use this opportunity in free agency to add players who can come in and help Darnold grow. Free agent center Mitch Morse stands out as an obvious fit.

The New York Jets released center Spencer Long earlier this off season, leaving an obvious hole at the position. Moving on from Long after one season is far from ideal, but adding Morse to the mix represents an opportunity to significantly improve up front.

Morse has been the starting center for the Kansas City Chiefs throughout his entire four-year career. He is a smart and athletic player who particularly shines in pass protection.

Morse uses his impressive quickness extremely well when protecting the quarterback, getting out of his stance and into position quickly and consistently keeping himself between the defender and the quarterback. He explodes into the rusher with a strong and accurate punch and shows a great anchor, holding strong pocket integrity against a power or bull rush.

He also shows strong natural instincts and football IQ, always finding himself in a position to succeed against the blitz and when the defensive line uses stunts and twists.

Simply put, Mitch Morse is an elite pass protector at the center position. If the Jets want to get the most out of Darnold, adding Morse to the mix to help protect him against the interior pass rush would undoubtedly be a step in the right direction.
