Dallas Cowboys: 5 Players to watch at 2019 NFL Scouting Combine
By Randy Gurzi
4. Andy Isabella, WR, Massachusetts
There seems to be very little chance that the Cowboys bring back slot receiver Cole Beasley in 2019. Should this become fact, there will be plenty who think his comments on Twitter about his lack of targets will be the reason why.
Beasley did bring a lot of attention to himself when he started saying the front office dictates who gets the ball — as well as his claim he wasn’t getting enough targets — but that’s not why the team might move on. Dallas has shown those kinds of comments don’t bother them as they just want competitors, heck they even brought back Brice Butler after he had some unflattering things to say during the 2018 offseason.
The real reason Beasley may not return is his age and salary. Beasley is about to turn 30 years of age in April and will also be asking for a raise from his last contract, which paid him just north of $4 million per season. He will be worth more, but Dallas is also pretty close to the top of the salary cap and might have to make sacrifices to extend some of their younger players.
With that being true, they could look to the draft for a replacement and someone like Andy Isabella from Massachusetts would be an ideal fit. An excellent route runner with better speed than No. 11, Isabella should have plenty of eyes on him during the Combine.
The one question for the Cowboys will be when he comes off the board. A second-round pick may be too rich for their blood, but will he last until their pick in the third? If so, he could be a great option for them.
