Houston Texans: Kevin Johnson

The Houston Texans were one of the hottest teams in football for most of the 2018 season, running off nine straight victories, and clinching the AFC South title. Unfortunately, they were ousted in the AFC Wild Card round by the division rival Indianapolis Colts, as Andrew Luck and company dominated them from start to finish.

The Texans have the talent to be back in the playoff mix next season, as they have a solid young quarterback in Deshaun Watson. On the defensive side of the ball, Houston has some pieces in place, but will have to be active in free agency, as the Texans must re-sign Jadeveon Clowney to a long-term deal and not let him walk.

In the secondary, the Texans have a lot of money locked up in cornerback Kevin Johnson, who is slated to make nearly $10 million this upcoming season. Johnson earned the starting cornerback job back in 2017, but was injured, and replaced by Kareem Jackson. Johnson never regained the starting gig from Jackson after his return.

Johnson spent nearly all the 2018 NFL season on the sidelines, as a concussion ended up landing him on Injured Reserve. It will cost the Texans nothing to either cut, or trade Johnson this offseason. You have to think that based on his production the last couple of seasons, they would be more than willing to free up that cap space this offseason.
