New England Patriots: Dwayne Allen

The New England Patriots have been an organization that does very little wrong when it comes to bringing in players via trades during their current run. While there have been some duds, they have mostly been consistent, bringing in people who help them to the playoffs, and win six Super Bowl titles.

Back in 2017, the Patriots traded with the Indianapolis Colts for tight end Dwayne Allen, who had hauled in six or more touchdowns in two of the previous three seasons. However, since coming to New England, Allen has been mostly a blocking tight end, though his current contract would assume that he does much more than that.

Currently, Allen is slated to make over $7.3 million dollars in 2019, which is way too much money for the kind of production this team is getting out of him. Sure, Rob Gronkowski looked very mediocre most of the season. That being said, he stepped up big time in the playoffs, helping lead the Patriots to another Lombardi Trophy.

Gronkowski is likely coming back in 2019, as he recently made hints to that fact, and with no dead cap money, Allen could be out the door in New England. He has done a nice job blocking for the Patriots, but this offense needs more of a threat at the tight end position. With Gronkowski entering the final stages of his career, this could be a position group they target late in round one this April.
