New York Giants: Rhett Ellison

The New York Giants have more than enough questions heading into the 2019 NFL season. These include whether they are going to roll with Eli Manning under center once again or not. Manning put up good numbers last season, despite the team winning only four games. There is really no backup plan at the Giants quarterback position as of yet.

In addition, rumors have swirled around that the team may move on from Odell Beckham Jr., who is one of the better wide receivers in all of football. Head coach Pat Shurmur has a lot of work to do this offseason, as he enters year two as the man in charge. The fan base is getting a little antsy.

When it comes to contracts, the Giants went out and spent good money on Rhett Ellison‘s services prior to the 2017 campaign, signing him to a four-year, $18 million contract. That same year, they drafted Ole Miss tight end Evan Engram in the first round of the NFL Draft. He has pretty much been the starter ever since.

Ellison is going to count nearly $5.8 million against the cap this season, which is a lot of money for a backup tight end. The Giants have their man in Engram, who has the potential to be a breakout player in 2019. Paying Ellison that much money to be the No. 2 just does not make sense for an organization that may need an overhaul of this roster.
