Cleveland Browns: T.J. Carrie

Prior to the 2018 NFL season, the Cleveland Browns went out and spent a ton of money on the cornerback position. Former Oakland Raiders corner T.J. Carrie was given a four-year deal by the Browns, worth over $30 million, making him one of the higher paid players on their roster heading into the season.

During his time in Oakland, Carrie was not a spectacular cornerback, although he was by far the best corner on the roster during a terrible 2017 season for the Silver and Black. Carrie parlayed that into a big pay day. However, heading into the 2018 campaign, the organization may be looking to move him out of the starting lineup.

With the No. 4 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, Cleveland selected Denzel Ward from Ohio State, and he had quite the rookie season. Carrie, during his time in Oakland, played his best football in the nickelback role. The Browns may choose to use an early draft pick on the cornerback position, and move Carrie to that spot for 2019.

Carrie is not a terrible cornerback, and he has shown the ability to make plays, but the Browns definitely overspent on him, as they had a need at the position. He will count as a $1.8 million dead cap hit after the 2019 season. So the team could move on from him then, as he will be making nearly $7 million. That is just way too much for a team that will have a bunch of young players to pay down the road.
