NFL Draft Big Board 2019: Top 50 players ahead of NFL Combine testing
By Cory Kinnan
10. T.J. Hockenson, TE, Iowa
T.J. Hockenson may be the hottest name on the block right now as he has been in the top five of other big boards. While this writer is not that high on him, Hockenson still lands in the top ten and comps well to Rob Gronkowski as a good run blocker and has the ability to make the big play down the field. Joining 49ers George Kittle, Iowa is slowly becoming TEU.
9. Dwayne Haskins, QB, Ohio State
After starting only one season for the Buckeyes and breaking just about every Ohio State and Big Ten passing record in the book, Dwayne Haskins decided he was ready to make the jump to the NFL and will likely see his name called in the top five as teams will be fighting to jump up and a quarterback. He book ends the top 10 and comes in as the top-rated quarterback and ninth on the big board. Expect him to put on a show this weekend.
8. Josh Allen, EDGE, Kentucky
You would be hard pressed to find a prospect with more production in 2018 than SEC Defensive Player of the Year Josh Allen. He benefitted his draft stock tremendously by returning for his Senior year and is likely to be picked early on in the first round of the draft. The NFL Combine can only hurt the senior edge rusher from Kentucky as he has the production and film to back up his play.
7. Clelin Ferrell, EDGE, Clemson
The edge rusher from Clemson looks like he is going to be a top five pick barring a frenzy of trade ups for quarterbacks. Dominating fellow first round prospect Jonah Williams in the national championship game, Ferrell has moves off of the edge to make teams swoon. While his first step needs some work, that should not stop teams from snagging him in the top five of the draft.
6. Noah Fant, TE, Iowa
This writer realizes that he is much higher on Noah Fant than most, but the tight end from Iowa has the athleticism to be explosive at the next level. While he may have a learning curve as most tight ends do when they first enter to league, Fant is an ideal target to dominate the seam and stretch the defense with a huge catch radius.
5. Devin White, LB, LSU
Devin White has athleticism to spare, but his technique has room to sharpen. However, the Butkus Award winner rounds out the top five of the big board and should be on the board of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Detroit Lions and Cincinnati Bengals. White has shown the versatility to flash in both coverage and against the run and would be an immediate upgrade to these lacking linebacker cores and has the potential to be a cornerstone piece to any defense.
4. Ed Oliver, DL, Houston
This Ed Oliver free-falling buzz is classic overanalyzing an elite prospect. Oliver will remain in the top five of this big board no matter what he weighs. If he slips, then it is a loss to the teams that pass on him and a major steal for the team that grabs him. Getting Geno Atkins comparisons, Oliver has a lot to offer any team looking to pick in the top half of the first round. Don’t be a fool, Oliver is who he’s always been: an elite talent.
3. Jawaan Taylor, OT, Florida
Jawaan Taylor’s stock has been on the rise for weeks, and he comes in as the highest ranked offensive lineman and rounds out the top three on this big board. He has the potential to be a franchise blindside and even if he plays right tackle to start his career, Mike McGlinchey displayed that even tackles who will play on the right side are worthy of a top-10 selection.
2. Nick Bosa, EDGE, Ohio State
Despite missing the majority of his junior season with a core injury, Nick Bosa comes in as the second ranked player on this big board. Contending to be the top pick in the draft, Bosa’s stock has not dropped at all since deciding to withdraw from Ohio State in order to heal up and train for the NFL Combine. It should be interesting to see how he tests this weekend.
1. Quinnen Williams, DT, Alabama
Williams is the best prospect in this class. He had a monster junior year for the Crimson Tide. He should be the No. 1 overall pick to the Arizona Cardinals should they choose to stay at that spot. It is not very close either, as Williams has far and way the best tape of anyone in the class and rivals Josh Allen and Jaylon Ferguson for elite production.
