Seattle Seahawks: 3 Bargains to target in 2019 NFL free agency
By Samuel Teets
Margus Hunt, DL
Margus Hunt may have moved inside later in the season for the Colts, but the Seahawks have a chance of losing Frank Clark in free agency to a high bidding team, and Quinton Jefferson is a restricted free agent. Clark and Jefferson were the main starters at defensive end for Seattle in 2018, which means the team will likely need to add at least one replacement this offseason.
At 6-8 and 298 pounds, Hunt is an absolute behemoth. It’s no wonder he was able to move around the line for the Colts last year. In terms of his role, he ended up playing a similar position to Cameron Heyward with the Steelers.
Now, the Seahawks really don’t need Hunt to move inside, unless they want him to replace defensive tackle Shamar Stephen. Stephen was Jarran Reed‘s running mate on the interior last season, but he’s hitting the open market after just one year in Seattle. This opens up possibilities for where Hunt would play along the line if Seattle did manage to sign him.
Of course, there’s a chance the Seahawks deem Hunt won’t fit their scheme and pay no attention to him this offseason. This is just speculation and puzzling, But, in an offseason where Demarcus Lawrence, Ezekiel Ansah, Clark and Trey Flowers are available, Hunt will fly under the radar. With so much talent stacked on top of him at his position, Hunt won’t be receiving any kind of monster deal. In fact, his value might even drop in such a talented, top-heavy market.
Hunt finished with 30 combined tackles and five sacks in 2018. A lot of his sacks came towards the start of the season, but he continued to pressure quarterbacks and dominant in the run game late into the season. I’m not saying he and Seattle are a perfect match, but there’s a lot of possibilities there.
