Round 5, Pick 140: Isaiah Buggs, DT, Alabama

Overshadowed by possible No. 1 overall pick Quinnen Williams this year at Alabama, Isaiah Buggs cannot be slept on either, and unfortunately at this point in the pre-draft process, he is. While he performed well in the on-field drills, displaying great use of his hands, his numbers were not off of the charts at the combine.

Here in the fifth round, the Jets take a chance on molding the 6-3 and 306-pound defensive tackle. With Leonard Williams entering his contract year and with Mike Pennel getting cut by the Jets, the team must address the interior of their defensive line. While Buggs may not be a day-one starter, he would be a solid rotational piece when the starters need breathers or in case of an injury.

The hard part for Buggs is that he is not fast enough to play as a 4-3 tackle, and too small to play as a nose tackle in the NFL, so he is caught between two positions where he currently stands. However, with a fifth round flyer, the Jets take a chance on Buggs here in the fifth round in hopes that he can be molded into a contributing defensive tackle in the NFL.
