Round 7, Pick 217: Tyre Brady, WR, Marshall

After skipping through the sixth round, where the Jets do not have a pick, we get to New York’s last pick in the seventh round; here they get Darnold another outside weapon in Tyre Brady from Marshall. Because the Jets remain thin at the wide receiver position, they find themselves taking two in this year’s draft.

While Brady ranks in the 70th percentile or above in his body size (height, weight, hand and arm size) he failed to get any higher than above the 40th percentile in all of the tests that he participated in. He also chose not to run the 40 yard dash or the 3-cone drill, two of the most indicative drills at the wide receiver position.

The University of Miami transfer finished his career at Marshall nearly hitting the 1,000-yard mark in back-to-back seasons, tallying 1,944 yards receiving and 17 touchdowns for the Thundering Herd.

However, measuring at nearly 6-3 and 211 pounds, he has the build to become a dominant outside receiver at the next level. However, Brady leaves more questions than answers; can he separate down the field and underneath? Can he win jump balls at the next level and can he beat the press off of the line of scrimmage? With a seventh round flyer, the Jets take a chance and hope to get the best out of Brady here.
