The Chicago Bears have barely any salary cap space to work with. They have to target the bargain bin to allow them to boost their title chances.
The Chicago Bears were a Cody Parkey missed kick — or even a favorable bounce off of the uprights, either time –away from going to the Divisional Round of the playoffs last season. While they are strapped for cash heading into the 2019 offseason, they could still look for some players to fill the few gaps that they do have entering NFL free agency.
One issue for the Bears as they look ahead will be losing out on some of their own impending free agents like safety Adrian Amos or cornerback Bryce Callahan that could easily get priced out of their range by teams with more money to burn on the open market.
This free agent class is particularly deep at areas of need like safety and defensive line. For Chicago, they will need to figure out how to replace players like Amos and Callahan as best as they can. However, they have to do so without either of their first two picks in the 2019 NFL Draft.
They’ll be searching through the bargain bin to try to find those players, but that doesn’t mean that they won’t be able to find serviceable players.
The Bears’ three major needs will be at safety (assuming Amos leaves), defensive line and slot cornerback. This team is set at a lot of positions, and, when you have a roster that is this talented, you’re going to be short on money. General manager Ryan Pace has done a great job of assembling the team that they have right now.
He’ll have to do some of his best work this offseason to bring in one of these guys to help push them to that next level in the playoffs.
