2. Sign DE Ziggy Ansah (Detroit Lions)

As has been previously discussed, the Indianapolis Colts have some money to spend and not a plethora of unrestricted free agents to re-sign. General manager Chris Ballard will ideally get back some of the players that club would like to retain.

That was certainly the case on Tuesday when the club were able to keep defensive end/turned nose tackle Margus Hunt off the open market. He made a career-best 15 starts and set personal highs with 30 total tackles and five sacks.

Meanwhile, the franchise could open up its checkbook for a few notable additions. And perhaps the organization could take advantage of another former first-round pick of the Detroit Lions, as was the case a year ago when Ballard grabbed tight end Eric Ebron off the scrapheap after the 10th overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft was cut loose by the team from the Motor City.

Injuries limited defensive end Ziggy Anzah, Detroit’s first-round selection one year before Ebron, to a career-low seven games in his sixth NFL season. He’s played in 80 regular-season contests in a half-dozen years with the Lions and racked up 48 sacks.

In 2018, he played for the franchise tender after being tagged by the club. But he’s getting ready to hit the open market and would be a welcome addition to a defense that managed a somewhat respectable 38 sacks. But there’s always room for improvement.
