Chicago Bears: 7-Round 2019 mock draft, post-Combine

Now that the NFL Combine is over, the Chicago Bears have a better idea of the players they want to draft. Here is my latest mock draft.

The new NFL season is about to get in full swing. We just got past the NFL Combine and free agency officially begins on March 13. Roughly a month and a half after that, the 2019 NFL Draft hits. The Chicago Bears are setting their sights on prospects they feel could help them take another step forward.

The Bears find themselves without many draft picks this year. A few trades, most notably the Khalil Mack trade, cost them some picks. What they got in return, however, is something the team could live with. Also, let’s not rule out some trades since general manager Ryan Pace showed in previous drafts that he isn’t afraid to pull the trigger on trades during the draft weekend.

Depending on what they do in free agency, the Bears look to add depth around the roster. They mainly need to tweak a few spots. Their priorities appear to be running back, slot corner, kicker and safety. The Bears are shopping Jordan Howard in exchange for draft picks and salary cap relief. Bryce Callahan and Adrian Amos are free agents and the team needs to decide whether to keep one or both of them.

Even if the Bears sign free agents for all those positions they still need to find players who can come in and help the starters. The team suffered through many injuries over the past several seasons. Some of that continued in 2018, but they had good backups who stepped up. They need some more of that in 2019. Not just in case of injuries but also to give the starters some rest.

If they play nearly all the snaps, they will not have much left at the end of the season/playoffs. That was the case for Akiem Hicks, who had two years in 2016 and 2017 that started out like Pro Bowl seasons. Late in those seasons, however, he just ran out of gas because he didn’t have the help. He had that help in 2018 and finally made the Pro Bowl.
