Round 7: Penny Hart, WR, Georgia State

Penny Hart was starting to get a lot of positive attention as he did well in the Senior Bowl, but the lack of an invite to the NFL Scouting Combine did a lot of damage to his stock. He could still work his way back into the good graces of NFL teams with a solid Pro Day and some individual workouts, but for now, he’s lasting until the final round.

That ends up being a great thing for the Dallas Cowboys who would be more than happy to snatch him up at this spot. Currently, there’s a lot of discussion as to whether or not they can retain slot receiver Cole Beasley as he’s asking for $20 million guaranteed according to some reports.

While it’s probably true he’s worth that, the Boys are operating too close to the cap to be able to afford him as well as all the other players they have to keep happy. With that being said, it might make more sense for them to go for a day three pick to try and groom into a slot receiver in the mold of Beasley.

Hart won’t come in with his polish, but he is a good route runner and he catches just about everything thrown to him. He missed all but two games in 2016 but managed more than 1,000-yards in two of his three full seasons played.

The question about his level of competition will be real, but Hart has the skill to overcome that and become an effective weapon as long as the team is patient with him.
