4. Know who to let walk

The Packers have long been believers in the draft and develop philosophy to build their roster. However, Gutekunst showed last year that he has no loyalty to the players that were drafted by former general manager Ted Thompson as he let multiple players go. Additionally, LaFleur’s system is much different than the one that was run by Mike McCarthy.

The offensive needs of the past aren’t the same as the needs of the present.

Fan favorites Clay Matthews and Randall Cobb are free agents, and it’s likely they are going to be suiting up in different uniforms next season. They have played a key role in this team’s success over the past decade that they’ve been with the team, but it’s time for them to part ways with the team and find their next step in their careers.

They also have other players that are free agents this offseason that are younger or play positions where they are very shallow or a number of other reasons to hold onto, but that doesn’t mean that they should sign them for the sake of signing them. Green Bay is drafting and developing with their new crop of players, and they have to let the wrong ones go out to pasture.
