NFL Free Agency 2019: Predicting the Houston Texans biggest moves
The Houston Texans were AFC South champions in 2018. But were they really the best team in the division? How can the club help itself this offseason?
In 2018, for only the sixth time in NFL history, a team was able to overcome a 0-3 start to reach the playoffs. The Houston Texans, off a 4-12 campaign the previous year, began the season by losing to the New England Patriots, Tennessee Titans and New York Giants, respectively.
However, Bill O’Brien’s resilient team would gather itself, reel off a nine-game winning streak and post 11 victories in their 13 contests. The franchise claimed its fifth AFC South title in the past eight years and the third in five seasons under O’Brien. The team also won at least 11 games for the first time since finishing with a 12-4 mark in 2012.
Unfortunately, it wound wind up being a short-lived trip to the playoffs as the Texans were humbled at home by the division-rival Colts, 21-7, in the Wild Card Round. Despite the club’s success in terms of reaching the postseason, this is a team that is still yet to advance to a conference championship game. And in terms of Indianapolis, it was the second time in 2018 that O’Brien’s club lost at home to that particular AFC South adversary.
So what five moves should the Texans make over the next few months to not only hold off the competition within the division but to make sure the club is equipped to go further in the playoffs? In terms of the suggestions, it might be surprising to see no mention of adding any offensive linemen via free agency.
Of course, there’s that NFL Draft thing in late April…
