3. Allow RB Alfred Blue to test free agency

Only seven teams in the league this past season ran for more yards than the Houston Texans. The 2018 AFC South champions rushed for 126.3 yards per game this past season. But it should also be noted that quarterback Deshaun Watson finished with a little over one-fourth of those yards (551) and tied for the club lead with five touchdowns on the ground.

In three seasons with the club, running back Lamar Miller has been a solid yet unspectacular performer. The former member of the Miami Dolphins joined the Texans in 2016 and in 44 regular-season contests (41 starts) has rolled up a very-respectable 3,612 yards from scrimmage and reached the end zone 18 times.

There were questions about his ability to handle a bigger load with a different team. But it’s worth noting that he’s touched the football more times with Bill O’Brien’s club (808) than he did in four seasons with the Dolphins (755).

Back in 2014, the Texans used a sixth-round pick on LSU running back Alfred Blue. He’s been a serviceable performer for the past five seasons, rushing for at least 400 yards in all but one of those campaigns. But look for 2017 third-round pick D’Onta Foreman, whose brief career has been hampered by injuries, to finally take on a bigger role. With free agency approaching, Blue will have his share of suitors.
