1. Re-sign DB Tyrann Mathieu

For numerous reasons, one of the more talented and versatile defensive backs was cut loose by his team last offseason. Hybrid defensive back Tyrann Mathieu was a Pro Bowler in 2015 with the Arizona Cardinals. But the organization felt that his failure to avoid injuries combined with a hefty price tag was a little too much. The Cards cut him loose and the Houston Texans wasted little time securing his services last offseason.

He responded with a big season for Romeo Crennel’s defensive unit. The six-year pro finished with 89 tackles, a pair of interceptions, eight passes defensed and three sacks. Now he’s getting ready to enter free agency and it’s safe to say he will attract plenty of interest. Mathieu has started all 16 games each of the past two seasons, first with the Cardinals and this past season with the eventual AFC South champions.

Thanks to a number of expiring contracts, as is the case with Mathieu, as well as some salary cap cuts by numerous clubs, the free-agent safety market is very deep. Ideally, the Texans would retain the 26-year-old performer. But Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports states the both the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Baltimore Ravens have “serious interest” in the talented performer.

Let the bidding begin.
