The Orlando Apollos and Birmingham Iron face off in a matchup of the top two teams in the AAF on Saturday afternoon. Here’s how you can watch.
Through the first week of the 2019, inaugural AAF season, the Orlando Apollos and Birmingham Iron have established themselves as the class of the league. At 4-0 and 3-1, respectively, they are the only two teams in The Alliance that have a record above .500. Now, as fate would have it, they are set to meet on Saturday in Week 5 at Legion Field to try and determine who sits atop the league.
For the Apollos, they have been the most balanced team in the league to this point under head coach Steve Spurrier. Quarterback Garrett Gilbert has been the class of his position, putting up gaudy numbers in comparison to his peers. On top of that, the Orlando defense has also been strong, coming up with a pass rush and timely turnovers each week.
As for the Iron, they have been a mixed bag on offense. Trent Richardson has seven touchdowns, but his yards per carry average has been abysmal. Meanwhile, Luis Perez has flashed at quarterback, but has still yet to throw a touchdown pass. Where Birmingham makes their bones, though, is on defense. They have been stifling on that side of the ball this season, but doing so against the Apollos will be their tallest task yet.

It truly looks as if the Orlando Apollos are in line to run the table. Having said that, this Birmingham Iron defense could at least throw a monkey wrench into that on Saturday. This is a marquee matchup in the AAF and all eyes should be on Legion Field this afternoon.
