Round 6, Pick 176: Isaiah Buggs, DT, Alabama

While defensive line is not a need for the 49ers in this year’s draft, it would not hurt them to add depth in order to keep Solomon Thomas, Arik Armstead and DeForest Buckner rested and ready to roll. Here at the end of the sixth round, they select potential first overall pick Williams’ running mate on the Alabama Defensive line, Isaiah Buggs.

Buggs is nowhere near the athletic talent of Williams and did not produce at Alabama the way that Williams did, but with a sixth round selection, the Niners may find a diamond in the rough. The 6-3 and 306-pound defensive tackle is not going to wow you with speed or strength, but presents a good frame to mold into a player who can produce at the next level.

Projecting better as a nose tackle in the NFL, Buggs hopes to make a name for himself and get out of the shadow of Williams. He has a long road ahead of him to prove that he is worth using a draft pick on, but here in the sixth round, taking a flyer on a guy from the top program in the nation does not sound like a bad idea.

With their sixth round selection in this mock draft, San Francisco brings Buggs to the Bay Area and make him a Niner.
