The Cleveland Browns are usually very active during free agency. What players could the team add over the next few weeks without breaking the bank?
Talk about rock bottom? The Cleveland Browns entered the 2018 season riding a 17-game losing streak. The club had also dropped 49 of its previous 53 contests after a 7-4 start back in 2014. But when it was all said and done, there were definitely strides made by in an organization that is now on its 11th head coach since returning to the league as a franchise expansion franchise in 1999.
This past season, head coach Hue Jackson and offensive coordinator Todd Haley (hired in 2018) only made it halfway through the year. General manager John Dorsey promoted defensive coordinator Gregg Williams to interim head coach, but he’s no longer with the organization as well.
But 2018 was still a season of positives for this much-maligned organizations. The Browns finally ended a 15-game losing streak to divisional opponents win an overtime win over the eventual AFC North champion Ravens. Cleveland snapped a 25-game road skid with a victory at Cincinnati in Week 12. And a team that finished 0-16 on year earlier — for only the second time in NFL history — finished 2018 with a 7-8-1 record.
All signs are pointing up for a team now under the command of head coach Freddie Kitchens who was promoted to offensive coordinator when Haley was dumped. Dorsey has already been busy this off season with signings and a trade that won’t become official for a few days.
So what bargains could the Browns find in free agency over the next few months?
