Briean Boddy-Calhoun

Needing help in their secondary, the Raiders must address that position this offseason, and one player that could add a tremendous impact to that position is Briean Boddy-Calhoun, formerly of the Cleveland Browns. A former undrafted free agent back in 2016, Boddy-Calhoun has played himself into the position to receive a pay day on his next contract.

With Marcus Gilchrist set to hit the market again, the Raiders are in need of a free safety, they could also use a nickel corner as well in their defense. Boddy-Calhoun covered both of those positions for the Browns in 2018 as their secondary faced injuries at both positions throughout the year. A hybrid defensive back like Boddy-Calhoun would be an asset for the Raiders.

In his three year career, Boddy-Calhoun has picked off three passes and deflected an additional 19, adding two tackles behind the line of scrimmage and hitting the quarterback five times on nickel blitzes. Boddy-Calhoun started 22 games for the Browns in that three year span.

At just the age of 25 and entering his fourth NFL season, Boddy-Calhoun could be a little more pricey than the other players mentioned, but will not demand the money of other free agent defensive backs such as Landon Collins, Ronald Darby or Bradley Roby. Oakland must take a look at him and seek to make an offer if they fail to land one of the bigger names in the secondary.
