Oakland Raiders emerging as Le’Veon Bell dark horse after landing Antonio Brown
By Cory Kinnan
The Oakland Raiders have reportedly landed one former Pittsburgh Steelers’ superstar, and the rumors are swirling that they are in the market for another.
Finally, the Antonio Brown saga has ended, well not necessarily since nothing can become official until the new league year opens. In principle, the Pittsburgh Steelers have agreed to trade the disgruntled superstar to the Oakland Raiders in exchange for a third and fifth round pick.
After 48 hours of speculation regarding Brown heading to the Bay Area due to an Instagram Live session where the wide receiver stated that he was “wearing the black and gray already,” the news broke early Sunday morning that Brown was indeed being shipped off to the Raiders.
It is hard to believe that Jon Gruden and Mike Mayock are finished just yet, and the pressing question that now lingers: is Le’Veon Bell next? NFL insider Benjamin Allbright has been reporting for about two weeks now that the Raiders are trying to land the trio of Brown, Bell and potential first overall pick Kyler Murray this offseason.
This would be quite the reloading for a team that won only four games in 2018, and a move that would certainly help to sell tickets and apparel as the team prepares to pack up and move to Las Vegas in the near future.
The running back himself had an interesting tweet to add fuel to the Bell-to-Oakland fire after the news of the Brown trade broke:
It appears that Bell himself would be fond of a potential pursuit by the Raiders, and if the price is right, Oakland could be the next place to call home. Do not be worried about money either, as the Raiders still have about $58.75 million in cap space after trading starting guard Kelechi Osemele to the New York Jets, plenty to offer the $15 million annually that has been reported to be Bell’s desire.
First Brown, now Bell? It is more than a baseless rumor that Bell could be the next superstar heading to the Raiders. As free agency is set to begin this week, Bell will remain a popular narrative to follow; be sure to keep an eye on it, especially if you are a fan of the Raiders.
