NFL free agency is unofficially underway. The Chicago Bears made some moves to improve the roster. Some more are on the horizon but we’ll take a look at what they’ve done thus far.

NFL free agency is finally here. Well, it’s been unofficially here. Teams and players have been able do everything except make the new contracts official, but have been able to negotiate since Monday at Noon ET. That happens on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. ET. We can make our reactions to what the Chicago Bears do official, though.

The Bears had some questions as to whether they’d re-sign some of their key free agent players. Slot cornerback Bryce Callahan and strong safety Adrian Amos played well in 2018, but salary cap restraints and attraction to other teams made keeping them difficult.

It turns out that the Bears made their decision on both players. With the market raising the price, the Bears decided to move on from both of them. The Green Bay Packers signed Amos to a four-year, $37 million deal and it appears Callahan has about five teams bidding for his services. The Bears weren’t prepared for a bidding war for them, so they decided to move on.

Some of the players the Bears have been able to get were a surprise. They were under the radar players who weren’t linked to the Bears. The front office also made some financial moves to free up some money. The question is, did they do that to make a big splash in free agency?

Once again we are in the midst of an offseason and general manager Ryan Pace is pulling off surprise moves. He continually has people guessing and guessing wrong on what moves he’ll make. He hasn’t made the surprise move of free agency (kudos to the Cleveland Browns), but he made some surprise moves. He’s been successful in building the team so far so Chicago Bears fans trust in what he’s doing.

Let’s take a look at the moves the Chicago Bears have done so far and analyze them.
