After not landing safety Earl Thomas in free agency, the Dallas Cowboys could look to Eric Berry who was recently released by the Kansas City Chiefs

Late in the 2017 NFL Season, the Dallas Cowboys and safety Earl Thomas started a flirtation. The safety, who was with the Seattle Seahawks at the time, approached the Cowboys head coach and had a message for him.

Thomas simply asked Jason Garrett to bring him to Big D. Dallas tried to abide by those wishes as they engaged in trade talks with Seattle but nothing came to fruition. Then when Thomas became a free agent, the rumors started again.

Again, fans who have been starving for this move were left feeling empty as Thomas signed with the Baltimore Ravens after Dallas was apparently out due to his price tag. That doesn’t mean they can’t  still improve at safety and another big name just became available as the Kansas City Chiefs released Eric Berry on Wednesday.

Berry was the No. 5 overall pick in 2010 out of Tennessee and quickly became one of the best in the league at his position. Sadly, his career was halted when he was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma back in December of 2014.

Berry was able to overcome cancer and was even named the 2015 Comeback Player of the Year. He was also given a huge extension with the Chiefs in 2017, but a torn Achilles shut that season quickly. Berry also missed all but two games in 2018 but was on the field for the playoffs.

Going after him would be risky given the injury history, but that could play into the Cowboys favor as he may come in much cheaper than his talent suggests.

Landing Berry on a one-year price-it deal would help him restore his name. It could also help the Dallas defense take a step forward in 2019.
