The Indianapolis Colts are armed with the most cap space available as free agency rolls on, and they have some players they could bring in to help them.
The Indianapolis Colts came into free agency armed with the most cap space in free agency of any NFL team in 2019, per Spotrac. Including the legal tampering period, they have signed two players, which includes re-signing their free agent cornerback Pierre Desir on a very reasonable contract of three years for $25 million.
They still have over $90 million available to spend, and they can sign any free agent they want. However, general manager Chris Ballard has shown he doesn’t spend money for the sake of spending it.
They do still have some players they can pursue in free agency to upgrade their roster, because they have some holes they can fill, especially on the defensive side of things. Who can Colts fans expect the team to side though?
A lot of the top options on the free agent market have been taken up on the first couple of days of free agency, but Ballard looks for value. He’s content to let the money roll over if he doesn’t like what’s on the table.
The Colts need to figure out how to elevate their ceiling this year, but they also know that a lot of their players will take steps forward this year. It’s important to build around your foundation while allowing their budding stars to grow organically. If they sign one or two of the guys on this list, they will be in much better shape heading into the draft and next season.
