The Pittsburgh Steelers watched two of the NFL’s best offensive players leave the club for different reasons. Could free agency provide some help?

Over the last few days, the Pittsburgh Steelers have been better known more for who is no longer with the club rather than who remains the team. After a few tumultuous months, the franchise opted to trade outspoken wide receiver Antonio Brown to the Oakland Raiders for a third- and fifth-round draft choice this year.

Now comes news that productive running back Le’Veon Bell — who sat out all of 2018 after the club game gave him the franchise tag for second straight year — joined the New York Jets via free agency. No matter how you slice it and regardless of the circumstances, the Steelers are no longer without the services of two very-talented skill position players (even though Bell never took the field for the team in 2018).

It’s also worth noting that the Steelers dealt veteran offensive tackle Marcus Gilbert to the Arizona Cardinals for a sixth-round draft choice next month. So when it’s all said and done (at least for now), general manager Kevin Colbert and the club has 10 choices in the 2019 NFL Draft.

The Steelers, like a few other clubs, have spent big money in free agency and continue to rely on selecting college talent. In the early stages of the new fiscal year, the club has added former Kansas City Chiefs cornerback Steven Nelson and one-time Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Donte Moncrief, who played for the Jacksonville Jaguars this past season.

But could Colbert and the team invest in a few other veterans over the next weeks and add a little proven depth to the roster?
