RG Josh Kline

Recently released by the Titans early Friday morning, Josh Kline now becomes a free agent after three seasons in Tennessee. He spent his first three years with the New England Patriots after making the team as an undrafted free agent in 2013.

Although he’s never been named to a Pro Bowl, Kline remains one of the most underrated interior lineman in the NF, especially as a pass protector. He had a down season in 2018, but has been one of the most consistent guards of the past few years, playing in 79 games with 64 starts.

Of course, the possible connection between Kline and the Packers lies therein with new head coach Matt LaFleur, who was Tennessee’s offensive coordinator last season. Even though Green Bay signed offensive lineman Billy Turner just days ago, Kline could be a candidate to watch due to his experience in LaFleur’s system. There’s no guarantee Turner will start at right guard in 2019.

In fact, in Thursday’s press conference with the media, Gutekunst stated Turner is far from being named the starter, and that he’d need to earn the spot in training camp. Signing another veteran like Kline, who just turned 29 years old, would bring healthy competition to the offensive line. Besides, Turner can play all four positions except center, so his versatility as a backup may be more valuable anyway.
