The Indianapolis Colts are loaded with ammo to add to their roster this off season. Here is a three round mock to help get the Colts back into the playoffs in 2019.
The Indianapolis Colts shocked everyone in 2018, making the playoffs and nearly winning the AFC South after a disastrous start. They were not a good team on paper, but they were coached well and even managed to win a playoff game. Now stocked with an extra second round pick, the Colts are set up to take the NFL by storm in 2019.
The Colts have their franchise quarterback, Andrew Luck, and are set up — for the most part — very nicely on offense with play makers like TY Hilton, Marlon Mack, Jack Doyle and Eric Ebron. Despite adding Devin Funchess in free agency, the Colts should still be looking for a complement at wide receiver to pair with Hilton long term. Overall, though, the Colts have no huge holes on an offense that finished top 10 in total offense in 2018.
The Colts defense is what is needing the most help this offseason. Despite out-performing expectations, the defense will still require the most attention for the Colts. For starters, they are losing starting safety Clayton Geathers to free agency. If the Colts choose not to re-sign him, this becomes a major area of need in either the draft or what is remaining of free agency. This adds to a need at defensive line as well.
Thus, here is a three-round 2019 mock draft to help the Colts reload to a Super Bowl run in 2019.
Round 1, Pick 26: Christian Wilkins, DT, Clemson
The Colts made the announcement that they were resigning defensive tackle Margus Hunt to a two year deal, but this doesn’t mean that the interior defensive line spot is not still one of the biggest priorities for the Colts. The Colts land one of the drafts top interior defensive lineman in Christian Wilkins. Wilkins would become an instant starter for the Colts and make an immediate impact on the Colts defensive line.
Wilkins saw playing time all four years as a Clemson Tiger and was able to make an impact in all four years. Wilkins recorded at least two sacks in all four years in Clemson and totaled 16 sacks throughout his entire career from the defensive tackle spot. He also was able to total 40.5 tackles for a loss, making him a true threat against the pass and the run from the inside of the defensive line.
Wilkins did not test great at the combine. He came in a little smaller than many expected him to, with his biggest red flag being his length, however this should not scare Colts fans away from this pick. Wilkins is a versatile athlete that could move all around the defensive line if needed. Wilkins moved all around the defensive line at Clemson and was pretty successful doing so. He is a very smart football player and was often praised as a leader in the locker room. Wilkins would bring a lot to the Colts, both on the field and in the locker room.
