Round 4,106: David Montgomery, RB, Iowa State

The Raiders missed out on the big named running backs on the open market as Bell went to the New York Jets, Mark Ingram went to the Baltimore Ravens and Tevin Coleman went to the San Francisco 49ers. While many quality backs are still available in free agency, Oakland is in need of one that they can rely on in both the passing game and running game.

While Jalen Richard is a restricted free agent and will more than likely return to the Raiders, it would be a massive failure to rely on Doug Martin as their primary ball carrier. Here in the fourth round, Oakland finds a potential bellcow and productive running back in David Montgomery from Iowa State.

While Montgomery is not going to wow with his speed, he is an athletic back with excellent ball carrier vision and is a quality target in the passing game out of the backfield as well. In a weak running back class, he could very well be the best of the group.

Getting Montgomery at great value with a fourth round selection, the Raiders lock down a running back that would come into the facility and instantly be the best back in the room.
