Round 7, Pick 237: Marvell Tell, S, Southern California

With their last pick in the draft, the Raiders seek a nice piece to add depth to their secondary with Marvell Tell out of USC. Tell was regarded as one of the top safety prospect entering the 2018 season, but after an abysmal season and nagging injuries that prevented him from attending the Senior Bowl and testing at the combine, Tell sees his draft stock plummet into the late rounds of the draft.

Tell finished his collegiate career with five interceptions, 6.5 tackles for loss, 127 total tackles and one forced fumble. A box safety, Tell has the skill set that is a hot commodity right now as NFL offenses are running more spread schemes and sticking more speed on the field and defenses are combatting it by replacing linebackers with safeties.

With the Raiders likely to keep Karl Joseph and signing Joyner, safety is no longer a glaring hole for the Raiders, so adding a hard-hitting safety like Tell could pay immediate dividends for the them on special teams and give them some much needed and often missed depth. Who knows, Tell could also return to the form that he held during his Junior season that made him so highly touted and Oakland could wind up with a steal here in the seventh round.
