S Adrian Amos (from Chicago Bears

Any time a team can sign a player away from a franchise in its own division, that’s regarded as a plus. In the case of the Green Bay Packers, general manager Brian Gutekunst was able to lure away one of the reigning NFC North champion’s better defensive performers.

Defensive coordinator Mike Pettine will have the luxury of having talented safety Adrian Amos at his disposal. The four-year starter for the Chicago Bears was a fifth-round draft choice by the team in 2015. He’s been in the team’s opening lineup for at least 10 games in each of this four NFL campaigns.

The former Penn State product comes off a season in which he finished third on Matt Nagy’s club with 72 tackles, two interceptions, nine passes defensed, one sack and one fumble recovery. He was one of the key components on a unit that allowed the third-fewest total yards in the league in 2018.

Last October, the Packers dealt Ha Ha Clinton-Dix (a Pro Bowler in 2016) to the Washington Redskins. Ironically, he spent just one season with that team and recently signed with the Bears. In essence, he’s Amos’ replacement in the Windy City. Let the season-long comparisons begin. More importantly, Amos should make an immediate impact in the Green Bay secondary.
