The Seattle Seahawks worked hard to add and retain players during 2019 free agency. In a crucial offseason, the team filled several positions of need.

The Seattle Seahawks as a team are trapped between being serious postseason contenders and just an average team. The squad finished with a 10-6 record in 2018, but was bounced from the playoffs in the first round when the offense underwent a complete meltdown for most of the game. Now that the team has established what it can do with the current core personnel, the expectations for Seattle will be higher in 2019.

The Seahawks had a handful of key starters and contributors playing in the final year of their deals in 2018. Of those players, some such as Justin Coleman and Mike Davis chose to sign lucrative deals with new teams. However, the Seahawks were still able to retain a large portion of their players and that will give the team great continuity in 2019.

As far as splash free agent signings go, the Seahawks weren’t exactly in the market for dishing out big money this year. The team will still have to contend with Bobby Wagner‘s and Russell Wilson‘s new contracts next season. Besides those deals, the team has been preoccupied with Frank Clark‘s future and rising star, Jarran Reed, will join Wagner and Wilson as a free agent in 2020. Those four contracts will claim a hefty sum of the team’s resources.

Going into free agency, the Seahawks had glaring needs along the offensive line, at the outside linebacker position and at kicker. The team addressed all of these needs, but they neglected the defensive backfield, which still lacks depth and star-power. I guess that will be one of the areas of focus when the draft rolls around. The tight end position was also an area I thought the team might explore in free agency, but it looks like that will also be saved for the draft or passed up entirely.

This list is not a ranking, it is just a compilation of the five most impactful signings the Seahawks made during the early phase of 2019 free agency. Keeping that and all of the above-listed factors in mind, here are the five biggest signing that will lead to future success.
