How Chicago Bears should proceed for rest of 2019 offseason
The Chicago Bears have done decently in the offseason, but they have to keep pushing. General manager Ryan Pace has a few specific bases he should cover.
The Chicago Bears have done a good job so far in the 2019 offseason of making the most out of their limited amount of cap space, but they can’t quite be done working yet. This team is in a good spot, but they have to make another move or two, especially with the limited amount of draft capital after multiple big trades over the past couple of years.
The key for them is to build around third-year quarterback Mitch Trubisky while adding to an already loaded defense that added Khalil Mack last offseason via one of those big trades.
If it weren’t for the meltdown of Cody Parkey last year, the Bears likely would have been a threat to make it to the NFC Championship Game, because their defense is one of the best units the game has seen in a few years.
Their offense is going to get better with Trubisky progressing under Matt Nagy, but the defense is what’s going to take them to their ultimate ceiling, much like with the Denver Broncos in the 2015-16 season that led to a Super Bowl 50 victory.
Bears general manager Ryan Pace has already done a great job of maximizing his resources since he took over, but he still has more work to do. This team is going to get expensive in a hurry, and they need to capitalize on this affordable group of core players before that happens.
With just enough resources to make something happen, what should Pace be working towards for the rest of the 2019 offseason?
