The Dallas Cowboys didn’t do much at all in the first wave of free agency, but the events may have altered their directions in this 7-round NFL mock draft

So far, the Dallas Cowboys have been pretty quiet in the free agency front, which isn’t shocking. Over the past couple of seasons, this has been how they operate. They decide what they’re willing to spend on a position and they go out and find players who fit their budget.

They didn’t budge from that during the Earl Thomas talks, which was somewhat surprising given the year-long flirtation going on between the two. But really, it shouldn’t have been a shock considering this is how the front office now operates with Will McClay and Stephen Jones making the decisions.

What is shocking is their on-going contract drama with defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence. Part of why Dallas is so hesitant to pay free agents is they believe in paying their own — and Lawrence has earned a big contract. However, Dallas and their top pass rusher are apparently far apart in terms of what contracts each other sees as fair, thus a franchise tag and potential hold out are now on the table.

The fact that Dallas didn’t land their guy at safety could affect their draft plans — as could the dispute with Lawrence. If they can’t get him locked up, defensive end becomes a massive need. As of now, the team still has time to fix it, but the offseason ends quickly.

With all that being said, we look at how the Cowboys 7-round mock draft could shake out after seeing them lose Cole Beasley and do little else in the first wave of free agency.
