Round 5, Pick 165: Jordan Scarlett, RB, Florida

Ezekiel Elliott is one of the best running backs in the entire NFL and he proved it by winning his second rushing title in three seasons. However, the Cowboys depth behind him is an issue. They need someone who can take some of the load off Zeke before he starts to wear down.

He did start showing visible signs of being beaten up as the season wore on, but to his credit, he never stayed off the field for long. Still, the team needs to do something to make sure he’s as close to 100 percent in December and January as possible.

With that goal in mind, they add some depth here with Jordan Scarlett out of Florida. Scarlett has a good mix of size (5-11, 208-pounds) and speed (4.47 in the 40-yard dash) — and we all know the Cowboys can use more speed on offense. He also put up 21 reps in the bench press at the Combine, just to show off his strength.

He does have some red flags to worry about including being part of the infamous credit card scandal while at Florida. That cost him his entire 2017 season and leads to him being available on day three. For Dallas, they have to feel good about those issues being behind him, but on the field, he could be a huge plus for them.
